Shuffleboard was a game made popular by the upper class as early as Tudor times. The game was originally played at home on an extremely large table sometimes measuring as long as 9 metres. The original idea of the game was to shove large weights as far down the board or table as possible without going over the edge. It is thought that shuffleboard evolved from this simple game played on the large dining tables at dinner parties. As the boards became smaller shuffleboard became a simple pub game with large weights replaced by small counters. The idea of modern shuffleboard is to hit your counters through four arches at the other end of the board marked 1 to 4. Of the all the traditional pub games shuffleboard possibly requires the most skill and technique.
